Mary J. Rogel, Ph.D., Dipl.Ac., L.Ac., is the owner of the practice and has been practicing acupuncture since 1986.  Her main focus is orthopedics and Restorative Kinematics, for which she uses a combination of needle and non-needle therapies, including acupuncture, topical herbal preparations, moxa, body work, and Chinese medical   qigong  exercises.  Her approach differs from that of most practitioners in that she focuses on tendons and ligaments and their effect on structural alignment.  She finds that many health problems are related to structural alignment, even many that are considered internal medicine.  Mary tries to remain aware of the influence of the brain on how we use our bodies, and to incorporate principles of brain neuroplasticity in her treatments and rehab suggestions.  She also tries to incorporate information about the “second brain,” the microbiome, and its impact on everything from digestion and immunity to emotions.

Mary holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from The University of Chicago and spent ten years teaching psychology and 25 years doing health research and consulting before becoming a full-time acupuncturist.  She has been publishing and teaching Restorative Kinematics to practitioners in various health care professions since 1999, and she is a licensed Acupuncture Continuing Education Provider and a licensed Massage Therapist Continuing Education Provider in Illinois and a PDA Provider for the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).  She was Editor of Oriental Medicine Journal from 2009-2019, and in 2014 she produced a successful pilot for a radio show entitled “Rethinking Orthopedics.”

Payments

Your Insurance May Reimburse for Acupuncture Treatment
Whether or not your insurance will reimburse your expenses for acupuncture depends on your policy.  Many insurance companies reimburse for acupuncture, but not all policies include an acupuncture benefit.  To find out whether your policy includes acupuncture, call your plan administrator.

East Point Associates, Ltd., does not accept assignment for insurance reimbursement.  We request that you pay for your treatment at the time it is rendered.  You may file your own insurance claim for reimbursement or request our assistance to file for you. If you want us to file a reimbursement insurance claim for you, please let us know at the time of payment. We will need a copy of your insurance card, and we will ask you to sign a form that we will keep on file.

Medical Savings Accounts Include Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture is an accepted expenditure for medical savings accounts.  Most plans provide you with a credit card specifically for that use.
